MetroParks of Butler County has introduced a new public archeryrange at Meadow Ridge MetroPark in Madison Township, near Middletown. The park is situated on the grounds of the former Weatherwax Golf Club, and the archery range is located where the driving range was previously located. There was a noticeable absence of public archery ranges in Butler County as a whole, with just one other public archery range at Hueston Woods State Park on the northwest side of the county. It was evident that there was a considerable need for a public space to practice archery in the northeast part of the county, specifically Meadow Ridge MetroPark.
The unsupervised archery range will be open daily during regular park hours from 8 a.m. to dusk and requires archers to be aged 18 or accompanied by an adult who is 21 years or older.
In collaboration with Young Guns Archery, a nonprofit organization specializing in training female and child archers, MetroParks worked on creating and designing the new range. By utilizing data from recreational databases, it was confirmed that an archery range would be well-received within three miles of Meadow Ridge MetroPark.

The desire for an available place to practice archery was particularly high within proximity to Meadow Ridge MetroPark as well as areas such as West Chester, where there are limited options for public access to such facilities. The aim is for this new addition to be successful in attracting individuals from various parts of the county.
Moving forward, plans include using this facility for qualifying hunters for annual whitetail deer bow hunting season which has started recently. Users will need their own equipment unless participating in scheduled clinics hosted by Young Guns Archery; certain types of arrow tips are prohibited due to safety concerns.
The official opening date for this new amenity is October 1st with Young Guns hosting free basic clinics on October 3rd specifically catered towards kids aged between 8-18 years old (equipment will be provided). However registration would also have been required along with attending these clinics.
