Elena Rybakina Defends Former Coach Amid Controversy
Elena Rybakina, the reigning Wimbledon champion, stated on Saturday that her former coach, Stefano Vukov, "never misused his position" following news of his provisional suspension by the WTA. Currently ranked sixth in the world, Rybakina is eager to reintegrate Vukov into her coaching staff despite an ongoing investigation regarding a potential violation of the women’s tour conduct guidelines.

According to The Athletic, the WTA initiated this inquiry last year based on several complaints pertaining to Vukov's approach to training and leadership style; descriptions described it as "intense and occasionally severe" from observers within tennis circles.
Vukov has denied any allegations of misconduct and affirmed in an interview: "I have never abused anyone." This situation arises just before the Australian Open set to commence on January 12.
Rising Support for Vukov from Rybakina
Rybakina came out strongly in support of her former coach while addressing media comments she found unfair.
“I'm disappointed by some remarks circulating from individuals involved in our sport—coaches and commentators alike,” she remarked earnestly during a post-match press briefing after Kazakhstan's loss against Poland at the United Cup. “It doesn’t seem right.”
She further expressed her unwavering faith in Vukov’s integrity: “I want to emphasize again that he has always treated me with respect over our six years together.”
At only 25 years old, this talented athlete was born in Moscow but represents Kazakhstan on international platforms. She concluded with thoughtful reflection: “This situation is not ideal for me; however, I deeply appreciate all that he has done since day one.”
In their recent semifinal match at the United Cup, Rybakina faced off against Poland's number two player Iga Swiatek but fell short with scores of 7-6 (7/5), 6-4.
