Former Tennis Coach Convicted of Child Exploitation in Upskirting Case
Green Bay, WI — Joshua Denault, a former tennis instructor, was adjudged guilty on Tuesday for producing inappropriate hidden videos of minors. This 40-year-old has been found no contest to multiple charges including four counts linked to child sexual exploitation through filming and two counts of child enticement. A total of twelve additional allegations were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
A court hearing is set for May 20, where the implications could include a prison duration starting at five years for some charges. After the ruling by Judge Thomas Walsh, Denault’s bail was revoked immediately, resulting in his detention.
The Allegations Against Denault
Denault served as a coach at both Western Racquet & Fitness Club located in Ashwaubenon and Four Seasons Tennis Club in Allouez—both establishments managed under the same leadership.
The investigation initiated when a ten-year-old girl reported that during her tennis lessons, he had instructed her to assume an exaggerated stance before positioning his cellphone directly beneath her to record video footage. Law enforcement later examined his device and discovered videos involving this victim along with footage featuring other girls.
“Joshua claimed he intended to film children on the court for training purposes,” stated the initial criminal complaint. However, prosecutors argued that such recordings predominantly showcased sensitive parts of young girls’ bodies while they were fully clothed.
The prosecution noted that although Denault appeared to be providing instruction during sessions with juvenile females, evidence from camera angles used suggested that little more than their limbs and racquets would be visible during these instructional moments.
Responses from Victims
“Seeing those videos makes me feel violated and enraged; it’s profoundly disturbing,” expressed one victim who revealed her feelings after watching evidence against him. “Coach Denault always made me uncomfortable; I did my best not to engage with him,” she added.
