WHITEFISH, Mont. —
USA Rugby announced the roster for the women’s Olympic Rugby Sevens team on Monday, with Whitefish native Nicole Heavirland making it as a traveling reserve.
“We are very excited about this team. We have an excellent blend of speed, power, work ethic, skill and creativity that we know will ignite our brand of rugby,” USA women’s head rugby coach Emilie Bydwell said in a press release. “The players compliment each other extremely well, enabling individuals to express their strengths and simultaneously bring out the super powers of those around them and the team.”

Heavirland was also a traveling reserve for the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, but the 29-year-old hooker/scrumhalf grabbed a spot on the USA Rugby team for Tokyo in 2020. The Eagles finished in sixth place in those Olympics.
Heavirland is a former USA Rugby All-American at Army West Point before making her USA Rugby debut during the 2015-16 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series at the Atlanta Sevens.
Heavirland was named a Captain of the USA women’s Sevens team in 2017, and in her career, she has earned 39 caps, 23 tries and 387 points in 138 games for the Eagles.
The pools for Olympic Rugby Sevens in Paris will be announced this Sunday, and matches begin Sunday, July 28.
