HANOVER, N.H. – Head Coach Katie Dowty has announced the addition of Kate Daley as the program’s newest assistant coach.
“Kate is widely regarded as one of the most brilliant rugby minds in the US — one of the most talented and thoughtful coaches I have ever worked with,” said Dowty. Her ability to upskill players and develop game IQ is world class. We are incredibly grateful to add such an experienced coach to our staff, who will no doubt be an invaluable resource and mentor for our athletes. I couldn’t be more thrilled with our coaching team as we head into the fall 2024 season.”
Daley comes to Hanover with over 16 years of coaching experience and over 19 years of playing experience in the sport. Her coaching career extends beyond all levels of the game with experience at the national, collegiate, club, and high school levels.
Her coaching career started in 2008, serving as the forwards coach at Princeton. From there, Daley spent three years at Notre Dame as the 15s head coach before heading back home to Pennsylvania.
Daley’s most recent coaching experience was at her alma mater, Penn State, where she served as the head coach for 15s and 7s. There, she led the Nittany Lions to three DI Elite USA Rugby College 15s National Championships, one USA Rugby College 7s National Championship, the Collegiate Rugby Championship (CRC 7s) Championship, several runners-up for the Elite National Championship and three Bronze Medal finishes for the CRC. She was also named USA Rugby’s Female Coach of the Year in 2015.
During her last stint with the USA National team as the assistant coach, Daley coached the team to the 2022 World Cup. She also served as the World Cup Coach Internship Designee from 2019 to 2022 and was an assistant coach for the USA Women’s National Team from 2018 to 2022 and coached the U20’s in 2015 and 2018.
Since 2015, Daley has also spent time coaching elite and all-start high school teams along the East Coast and spent time as the head coach for the club, Old Blue Women’s 7s team.
A renowned Rugby player, Daley was a key player at Penn State, named a four-time All-American, two-time MVP Champion and winning the 2007 and 2009 National Championships. She was also named to the All-Star 15s team for the Midwest Rugby Football Union for 15s and 7s. Representing the U.S., Daley also played in the U19 and U23 team and played as an Atlantis Player for the invitational rugby 7s club. Her playing career also shined recognition beyond the collegiate level with 21 international appearances and being named a Captain for the 2014 World Cup.
Daley also has had experience in administrative roles. Currently serving as the PA Girls High School All-Stars High-Performance Director, she is also a board member of the Nittany Lion Rugby Association. From 2011 to 2014, Daley was the Midwest women’s 7s coordinator and the Chicago Northshore Match Secretary.
Daley holds certifications in level 300 and 200 in World Rugby coaching in level one and two and a certification in officiating level one.
