Team USA has named its Women’s Rugby team ahead of next month’s Paris Olympics. Reno High graduate Steph Rovetti is on of 12 players who were named to the team.
Rovetti was a standout sprinter and basketball player in High School. In 2008, she finished second at state in both the 100m and 200m events. Rovetti went on to play basketball at BYU, where she helped lead BYU to a Sweet 16 appearance in 2014 when they also held a No. 18 national ranking in the AP Poll.
After capping off her college career at Fresno State, she made a seamless transition to rugby, swiftly emerging as a standout talent. Her exceptional performance at the 2018 Club Sevens National Championships earned her MVP honors, propelling the San Diego Surfers to a triumphant Championship title. Her remarkable skills quickly garnered the attention of national team coaches, leading to an invitation to the Women’s Eagles Sevens residency camp. There, she earned her debut spot for the USA Women’s Sevens 2018 tournament.
