DAR ES SALAAM: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has generously sponsored the women’s national golf team, providing them with flight tickets and financial allowances as they prepare to represent Tanzania at the 2024 All Africa Challenge Trophy in Morocco, commencing next week.

The delegation includes skilled golfers such as Neema Olomi, Hawa Wanyeche, and Madina Iddi. They will be directed by Team Manager Ayne Magombe during their journey, set to leave for Morocco this coming day to participate in the prestigious 54-hole championship held at Taghazout Golf Club in Agadir. This significant event draws participants from over 21 nations across the African continent.
Official Send-off Ceremony
On the previous day, Charles Maguzu, Sports Officer at the National Sports Council (NSC), formally presented the national flag to the team during a ceremony in Dar es Salaam. He shared uplifting news that President Samia has covered their round-trip airfare and provided stipends for their six-day stay abroad while expressing his firm belief in their capabilities.
“During last year’s tournament hosted here in Dar es Salaam, you achieved a commendable third place after South Africa and Morocco. Our expectations are high for you to secure a top-two finish this time,” remarked Maguzu.

The Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) received praise during this send-off event for its vital role in promoting golf and supporting athletes on international platforms. Queen Siraki, president of TLGU conveyed her optimism about the team’s preparation: “The success of our female golfers is made possible through a collaborative effort between TLGU, government sponsorships, and support from Tanzania Golf Union (TGU).”

Team Manager Magombe confirmed that ahead of competition commencement; players would undergo three days of practice sessions on-site to ensure optimal familiarity with golf course conditions and overall readiness.
