Rafael Nadal has significantly increased his wealth soon after announcing his retirement, with his enterprise generating a remarkable £70 million in profit following a landmark deal. The former world No. 1 tennis player oversees numerous tennis academies worldwide, all operating under the Rafa Nadal Academy banner, with its primary location situated in Manacor, Mallorca.
Recently, Nadal enhanced his financial standing by divesting nearly half of his equity in this thriving organization. His academies span various countries including Mallorca, Greece, Hong Kong, Kuwait, and Mexico. Additionally, he is preparing to launch yet another facility in Saudi Arabia as part of his responsibilities as an ambassador for tennis within the region.
Expanding Legacy
The original Rafa Nadal Academy was inaugurated in 2016 in Manacor and has since evolved to include a hotel within its complex—a strategic move that has further bolstered its revenue streams. Notable alumni from this establishment include rising stars such as Casper Ruud and Jaume Munar; prominent players like Venus Williams and Felix Auger-Aliassime have also visited for training programs.
Reports from La Voz de Ibiza indicate that Nadal recently sold approximately 44.9% of his stake in the academy for close to £79 million (€95 million) to GPF Capital, a private investment firm. This arrangement led to an impressive profit of around £70 million (€85 million) accrued through Nadal’s holding company Aspemir while allowing him to maintain majority ownership over the academy based in Manacor.
Strategic Investments
This transaction came just three months following Nadal’s retirement from professional competition on the ATP Tour. GPF Capital had previously acquired an undisclosed share of the academy back in November 2023. At that time, Martin Rodriguez-Fraile—the founding partner—emphasized their commitment by stating: “GPF is dedicated to investing in education and sports as fundamental components of society; no initiative integrates both aspects more effectively than the Rafa Nadal Academy.”
The academy continues to offer extensive training programs tailored for both adults and juniors alongside an international school catering to students on-site. For visitors seeking leisure activities at this elite sporting venue there are swimming pools available; multiple dining options enhance guest experiences so do facilities like spas.
Also integrated into this expansive facility is the Rafa Nadal Museum where enthusiasts can admire some of Rafael’s prestigious trophies along with memorabilia from other sports icons such as Roger Federer and Lionel Messi—making it a culturally rich destination.

ATP ranked No. 5 player Casper Ruud began utilizing resources at the academy since 2018; interestingly enough one of his sisters has also graduated from it.
