Date: February 22, 2025, Time: 05:58 PM
Masterplan Unveiled
On Saturday, February 22, a comprehensive five-year master plan was introduced for the Tampines area. This initiative is aimed at enhancing the overall living and commuting experience within the region.
Construction of a New Integrated Transport Hub
The Tampines Town Council has released information regarding ongoing investigations into a newly proposed integrated transport hub. Presently, residents benefit from four MRT stations and an extensive network of 44 bus routes, categorizing Tampines as a “20-minute town.” This designation indicates that public transport or active modes like walking and cycling will enable quick access to neighborhood centers within just twenty minutes.
Cycling Infrastructure Improvements
As part of this strategic plan, by the year 2027, enhancements in cycling infrastructure are set to include an underpass for cyclists and a new bridge over the Tampines Expressway (TPE), along with an impressive expansion of cycling paths totaling 7.7 kilometers. The bridge will facilitate smoother commutes between Tampines and Pasir Ris.
Tampines Regional Centre’s Transformation
The revitalization efforts extend to the existing facilities at the Tampines Regional Centre which will see an influx of new amenities like community spaces and various work environments. A significant addition is Singapore’s inaugural distributed district cooling network that promises substantial energy savings; it’s anticipated that seven existing structures within the town center will be linked to this system by 2025 while utilizing approximately eleven percent less energy compared to traditional cooling systems.
A Vision for Walkability
A more pedestrian-centric design is unfolding in downtown areas as authorities investigate plans for creating a dedicated pedestrian street connecting shopping centers with tamped MRT station locations.
This master plan marks significant milestones towards shaping not just efficient transport but also liveable community environments in Tambun’s growth framework.
